A Moment of Breath
We have reached a moment of breath. The election has been “called” and the number too high for further debate. 290 vs 214 in electoral votes. It’s a done deal no matter how many more popular votes are still being counted. We are sighing in some form and level of relief. It’s over. At least this bit of “it”.
Red or Blue, it’s a moment to breath again. To shed, for however briefly, the exhausting burden of uncertaintly we have been carrying these past months. Shed the tight crust of anxiety shading our mental skin.
Oddly, it’s a similar feeling to finally having that tooth pulled. The escape of leaving the dentists office and that horrible drilling sound in our head. You know you will be back in the chair, soon. But for today, it’s over. A deep breath of release before your next visit. The pulsating pain is gone.
Despite the final numbers, this has not been the fabled “blue wave”. There is too much red still bleeding in between. We are viewing this with the same trepidation as our next visit to the dentist. With vague discomfort and a sense of waiting for the bill to come. How much will this cost us?
For now, we are merely happy the extraction is over. Our mental tongue is questioning this new gap. Feeling around. A new crown will be expensive and we are not sure we can afford it. Will this dentist know how to make a crown that fits? Or, will it just be a cheap cap covering a future cavity? Political dentistry.
Today, take a breath. Hold onto the moment and this balloon of hope. Take a walk through shades of autumn and look up. Hope is always stronger than fear. Even with the dentist.
Whatever happens, we must refuse a return to “normal” numbness. This is a brave, new world and we need to be equally brave and new in our approach to it. The old world, the “normal” world was not working. Doing the same thing, expecting a different result is, as we all know, the definition of insanity. There is nothing scarier than a crazy dentist..
Gen Z, we want to hear your voices leading us into the change forward. Hear how you sink your teeth into all things political. We need to chew on some new ideas..
